UPSC photo ID upload: PDF only; certificate 20 KB to 300 KB
Checked against official sources on 25 October 2026
On UPSC's One Time Registration (OTR) portal, the photo identity document must be uploaded as a PDF. A PwBD certificate (writing extremity) must be between 20 KB and 300 KB. The registration FAQ allows the photograph and signature as JPG files of 20 KB to 300 KB (350 × 350 to 1000 × 1000 pixels), but individual exam notices can be stricter.
| Upload | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Photo ID document | PDF only |
| PwBD certificate (writing extremity) | 20 KB – 300 KB |
| Photograph and signature (JPG), per OTR FAQ | 20 KB – 300 KB |
| Photograph (JPG), CAPF 2026 notice | 20 KB – 200 KB |
| Signature (JPG), CAPF 2026 notice | 20 KB – 100 KB |
Turning your ID card into a PDF
Photograph or scan the front of your Aadhaar, PAN, passport or other ID. Open JPG to PDF, add the photo (and the back side if needed) and download the PDF. If it is large, compress it with Compress PDF.
Keeping the certificate between 20 KB and 300 KB
Use Compress PDF with the 300 KB target. Do not compress a small file further: anything under 20 KB is rejected.
Exam notices can set tighter limits
Each examination notice can set its own sizes. For example, the CAPF (AC) 2026 notice asks for a photograph of 20 KB to 200 KB and a signature of 20 KB to 100 KB, tighter than the registration FAQ. Always follow the notice for the exam you are applying to, and the size shown on upsconline.
