Safe and trustworthy PDF tools
Facts about other services are taken from their own pages, checked on 25 October 2026.
A safe PDF tool either never uploads your file, or says clearly where it goes, how long it stays, and who runs it. Before you drop in a certificate, ID or bank statement, check six things: whether it uploads, where, for how long, whether you need an account, whether the page has ads or trackers, and whether a real company stands behind it.
Six checks for any PDF website
1Does it upload your file at all?
The safest file is one that never leaves your device. Some tools do the work inside your browser. You can test this yourself (see below).
PDF Sevak: Seventeen of our twenty tools never upload. Compress, merge, split, remove and extract pages, organise, rotate, crop, JPG to PDF, scan to PDF, PDF to JPG, sign, fill forms, edit, page numbers, watermark and redact run on your device, and the page is locked by a browser rule that blocks connections to other websites.
2If it uploads, where does the file go?
The country of the server decides which law protects your document. Look for a clear statement on the site, not a guess.
PDF Sevak: PDF to Word, Protect and Unlock use our own server in a data centre in India. The file is not passed to any other company, API or AI service.
3How long is the file kept?
Many sites keep uploads for an hour or two, some until you delete them. Prefer a stated, short time.
PDF Sevak: Our server erases its temporary files in the same request, usually within seconds, when the result is sent back. We keep no copy.
4Do you need an account?
An account links your documents to your identity and often keeps them stored. For one-off jobs you should not need one.
PDF Sevak: No account or sign-up for any free tool.
5Are there ads or third-party trackers?
Advertising and tracking scripts run on the same page as your document and report your visit to other companies.
PDF Sevak: No ads and no third-party trackers. Our own visitor counts store no IP address.
6Who runs it?
A trustworthy tool names the company behind it, gives a way to contact them and publishes plain privacy terms.
PDF Sevak: Tatvamaya LLP, India. Contact · Privacy, tool by tool
Test it yourself in 30 seconds
- Open a PDF Sevak tool such as Merge PDF and let the page load.
- Turn on airplane mode, or switch off Wi-Fi.
- Add your files and press the button. It still works, because nothing is sent anywhere.
Checked by your browser, not just promised
Every PDF Sevak page carries a security rule (a Content Security Policy) that tells your browser to refuse connections to any website other than tatvamaya.com. The only exception is Razorpay, our payment provider, used only when you buy Pro. If any code on the page tried to send your file elsewhere, the browser itself would block it.
To see it: on a computer, right-click any tool page, choose View page source and search for Content-Security-Policy. Or open the browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab and run a tool: with the browser tools you will see no upload at all.
Where popular PDF tools process your file

Questions
Which PDF tools are safe to use?
The safest are tools that process the file in your browser without uploading it. For tools that must upload, choose one that says clearly where its servers are, deletes files quickly, needs no account and shows no ads. PDF Sevak meets all of these: nine tools, including Compress PDF, never upload, and the rest run on its own server in India and keep no copy.
Is it safe to upload Aadhaar, PAN or bank statements to PDF websites?
Only to a site you trust and only when needed. Where possible, use a tool that works in your browser so the document never leaves your device. If a tool must upload, check where the server is and how long the file is kept. Mask the first eight digits of Aadhaar where a masked copy is accepted.
Are iLovePDF and Smallpdf safe?
They are established services that say they delete uploaded files after a set time (within 2 hours for iLovePDF, 1 hour for Smallpdf free tools) on servers in Europe. Whether that suits you depends on your document. If you prefer that a file never leaves India, or never leaves your device, PDF Sevak is an option.
How can I check if a PDF tool uploads my file?
Open the tool, let the page load, then switch your phone or laptop to airplane mode and run it. If it still works, it is processing on your device. On a computer you can also open the browser's developer tools (Network tab) and watch for a large upload when you press the button.
