DigiLocker upload limit: 10 MB per file (PDF, JPG, PNG)
Checked against official sources on 25 October 2026
When you upload your own documents to DigiLocker's Drive, each file can be up to 10 MB and must be a PDF, JPG, JPEG or PNG. DigiLocker shows “Maximum file size is 10 MB” for larger files. Your Drive has 1 GB of storage in total, and file names longer than 50 characters must be shortened.
| Upload | Limit |
|---|---|
| Each uploaded file | 10 MB |
| File types | PDF, JPG, JPEG, PNG |
| Total Drive storage | 1 GB |
| File name length | up to 50 characters |
Bringing a large scan under 10 MB
Open Compress PDF and tap 5 MB, or choose the Recommended level. Long colour scans, such as property papers or a full passbook, usually shrink far below 10 MB.
Save space in your 1 GB
Compressing documents before uploading keeps more room in your Drive. Several separate phone photos can also be combined into one PDF with JPG to PDF.
Issued documents are different
Documents issued directly to DigiLocker by government departments (such as a driving licence or marksheet) do not count as uploads and need no compression.
