NSP scholarship documents: PDF or JPG between 20 KB and 200 KB

Checked against official sources on 25 October 2026

On the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), each document you upload, such as an income certificate, must be a PDF, JPG or JPEG file between 20 KB and 200 KB. A file above 200 KB or below 20 KB is rejected. Maharashtra's MahaDBT portal uses different limits: its FAQ allows JPG or PNG up to 250 KB, while its help file allows PDF under 256 KB for identity and address proofs.

UploadSize allowed
NSP: each document (PDF / JPG / JPEG)20 KB – 200 KB
MahaDBT FAQ: each file (JPG / PNG)up to 250 KB
MahaDBT help file: identity and address proofs (PDF)under 256 KB
MahaDBT help file: same proofs as JPG/JPEG5 KB – 20 KB

Getting an NSP document between 20 and 200 KB

Open Compress PDF and tap 200 KB. A clear one-page certificate usually lands around 100 to 190 KB, inside the range. If you only have a phone photo of the certificate, turn it into a PDF with JPG to PDF first, then compress it.

Do not go below 20 KB

NSP also rejects files that are too small. If a compressed file comes out under 20 KB, compress it less (choose 200 KB rather than a lower target) or rescan the page in colour at 150 to 200 dpi.

MahaDBT: follow the upload box

Maharashtra's own pages disagree: the FAQ mentions JPG and PNG up to 250 KB, while the help file mentions PDF under 256 KB for proofs. Check the size and format shown next to each upload box, and keep files under 250 KB to be safe.

Final submission cannot be edited

The NSP manual notes that once you give the final submission, the application cannot be changed. Open each compressed file and check it is readable before you submit.
