How we handle your files

How it works, tips and questions

Open Redact PDF, tick what to find (Aadhaar with the first 8 digits masked, PAN, mobile numbers, emails or your own words) and press Find, or drag boxes by hand. Pages you mark are rebuilt so the covered text is removed for good, all in your browser.

Step by step

  1. Choose the PDF.
  2. Tick what to find (Aadhaar, PAN, mobile numbers, emails or your own words) and press Find, or drag boxes over anything private.
  3. Check each page, remove any box you do not need, and press Redact PDF.

Good to know

Masked Aadhaar in one click

UIDAI's masked Aadhaar shows only the last 4 digits. Tick “Aadhaar: hide first 8 digits” and PDF Sevak covers the first 8 digits of every Aadhaar number it finds, so the copy you share matches that format. Choose “hide all 12 digits” to cover the whole number.

Real redaction, not just a black box

Drawing a black rectangle in many editors leaves the text underneath, where it can still be copied or searched. PDF Sevak rebuilds every page you mark as an image with the boxes burned in, so the covered text is gone. Pages you do not mark stay exactly as they were, and document properties such as author and title are cleared.

Scanned documents

Automatic search needs text in the PDF. For a scan or a photo of an Aadhaar card, drag the boxes by hand; it takes a few seconds.

Questions

Can redacted text be recovered?

No. Marked pages are replaced with images that contain only what you left visible.

Why can I no longer select text on a redacted page?

Because the page is rebuilt as an image to remove the hidden text. Other pages keep their selectable text.

Does it find numbers in scanned PDFs?

No, scans have no text to search. Drag boxes by hand.
